How can you be free in your busy schedule?

The free time that you think yourself to have is very different from the actual free time you genuinely have yourself in your platter. It's just that you have not yet discovered the bits and pieces of time that you spend in a day which should be changed if you dream to be someone great. "There is time when you have your priorities in mind".

The first thing that I want you to do before even going through this article is to watch a Tedtalk by Laura Vanderkam, an author of countless time management and productivity books. Her work has appeared in publications including the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Fast Company, and Fortune. She, in this video, gives an incredible insight into- How to gain control of your free time.

The video almost gives you a reality check and forces you to consider the fact that whatever you have achieved in your life, today, even the simplest of things could have been executed in half the time if you had gotten the idea about the 168-hour concept.

Well, the one line that still echoes in my head from this video is that- "I don't have time" often means " It's not a priority". This is true to its core. You make your way through your priorities, time will in itself stretch and adjust the tasks for you.

Some tricks that might help you actually save time:

  • Always do something you hate, which also needs to be productive, after having done something you absolutely loved: Usually, we hate the things that are difficult to do like studying, spending an hour or two researching for a project, viewing some recorded classes, etc. But mind you, Successful people end up doing things that they hate too but they are just successful enough to tackle their temptation being carried away with it.

  • Always view T.V as a waste of time:

Do you know half of our time goes into watching useless T.V programs and series that certainly is of no help at the end of the day? When you form a notion that watching T.V is a waste you yourself would subsequently reduce down your levels of binge-watching and negate your work to more productive works.

  • Try and Use your mornings: Many articles, books, websites, and even scientific researches for that matter have proved that getting up early in the morning solves most of your time management problems. There you go! A little life hack- always keep the alarm device away so that when it 'blares on' in the morning, you get up to blow it off and then start roaming around barefoot until and unless you wake up.

  • Plan your day out in the previous day itself. This gives you a better chance to list your priorities and goals for the other day to be written down on paper. And then at the end of the week come back to these goals and see if you were able to strike most of them which will, in turn, give you an insight into your performance over set-goals.

  • Use your BONUS times: While everyone might know and even keep track or are already successful in following their schedules, rare are the ones who use their unexpected bonus free times that they get to themselves. This is where the great achievers differ.

  • Lastly, in the words of Laura Vanderkam- "Think of 168 hours, not 24": There are 168 hours in a week. If we consider that you work for a full-time job for 50 hours every week and then 8 hours are there for your sleep, you still have 62 hours for the other things (sparing some time for even your entertainment;). It's your life, do not narrow it down by just considering 24 hours.

I know I have stressed a lot about the importance of time management in this blog but I also feel that every day doesn't have to be productive. You can be unproductive at times but only when it comes down to your health by which I mean both mental and physical. You give yourself a break because that is not unproductive but you are saving yourself from an infertile life.
