Social media has turned us into a virtual wannabe. We constantly seek social validation to self value ourselves. Nowadays, the self talk we have with ourselves is no more ' I am the best' but rather it is ' Am I good enough than " her/him" .'

It is shocking that social media has affected people in building depression, anxiety, stress and numerous other issues. The very tool that was built for our convenience has now turned our lives upside down by causing MENTAL HEALTH problems in 4/5( 4 out of 5) houses.
The use of social media, however, continues to rise, it is estimated that by 2021, over 3 billion people will be using it out of 7.8 billion people living in the world. The statistics of the social media on mental illness are even more horrific. Take a look.

Socials have their own pros and cons. Frankly speaking, their are tons of article that will give you an insight to all those things. There is no denying the fact that it has pros that are mind-boggling; one of which is, being able to share your knowledge and experience with the others who are living miserable lives and help them cope with it.

But the one thing that it is surely doing with us is that it is draining down our levels of creativity, our brain capital and pushing us down to live a life of "VIRTUAL PERFECTION." These are the things that ultimately triggers the deterioration of our mental health.
The solution:
Do me a favour and watch this video:)
2. A 2018 University of Pennsylvania study found that reducing social media use to 30 minutes a day resulted in a significant reduction in the levels of anxiety, depression, loneliness, sleep problems, and FOMO i.e Fear Of Missing Out. But it does't mean you have to do it all of a sudden. Start working with baby steps.

3. Start with a social media fast on a timely basis. As stated above, start reducing your time on socials gradually.
4. The time frame during which you use social, use it for your good. For improving yourself rather than looking at the lifestyles of others who pretend to be perfect but end up being the most imperfect and unhappy in their life. And even if they are not, who cares, build yourself such a lifestyle by working on it..
5. FOMO is one of the most top reasons so as to why many of us join social. But remember, this also ends us up with depression and anxiety because we fear of not fitting into the social standards of the VIRTUAL WORLD. So, give yourself a break for at least a day without social and then extend it further to know yourself better and regain your levels of focus;)

Social media when used safely can give you tons of benefits and networks to reach people out. But when you surround your life around it, that's when it becomes a problem. You give yourself that pressure to fit in and you bring with it stress and several other side effects. Always use social media to learn something new or to release your stresses not to gain them. So give yourself a chance by taking a break from social even if it just for a day;)
